OFF THE PAGE

Marcia made this lovely "J" for her sister where she is going to write a message on the back. Well done, I look forward to seeing more of your crafty work!

The second photo here is of decorative letters attached to a canvas to be hung in my son's bedroom. The papers used are from the new "All Boys" scrapbooking range from Kaszazz.

Both items were made by:
  • Painting around the edges of the timber letters (and back of Marcia's).
  • Mod Podge is applied to the letters and scrapbook paper attached.
  • Once dry, edges are trimmed with a craft knife and sanded.
  • Apply another coat of Mod Podge to the top side to seal and protect.
  • Embellishments are then added to decorate.

CARDS CREATED BY GINA

Some of these lovely cards Gina has created by using a Cuttlebug embossing template or used embossed paper, she also painted the cupcake with real paints which give it a lovely finish. Well done Gina, they look fantastic.

CARDS FOR THE BOYS By Marg

Cards created by using off cuts, background stamps, ribbon and gem stones - who said boys can't have a bit of bling. Gotta love those turtles - hey girls!!! (in joke)

Robyn decorated letters purchased from Home Biz in Berowra ($2 each) to create this Christmas display for her home. A more detailed photo to be posted asap - I'm sure the girls that attended last night would be interested to see what Robyn did with her display when she got home. Thanks Robyn for this photo.

OFF THE PAGE PROJECTS

Many people have shown an interest in wooden projects and are keen to learn how to apply scrapbooking paper to wooden letters, numbers or booklets, even chipboard pieces and alphabets. This Friday at our craft day I will show you how to create these interesting pieces. What you will need to complete a project is:

  • MOD PODGE (waterbase sealer)
  • WOODEN LETTER/s, NUMBER/s OR BOOKLET
  • PAINT BRUSH OR SPONGE TO APPLY SEALER
  • PRINTED SCRAPBOOK PAPER TO DECORATE
  • RUB ONS
  • EMBELLISHMENTS ie. ribbon, gems, flowers
  • PENCIL AND SCISSORS
  • SANDPAPER
  • SHARP BLADE/CUTTING KNIFE
  • CUTTING MAT

You should be able to purchase Mod Podge from either Spotlight, Riot or Catchy Crafts at Hornsby. Mod Podge is a waterbased sealer, glue and finish for all surfaces. You may wish to paint your item with a complimentary colour prior to applying the printed paper - this could be done on the day or prior.

WELCOMING THE TEENAGE YEARS

Happy Birthday Nick!

TAKING PHOTOS IN THE HOLIDAYS

Remember if you are snapping photos this school holidays think about different ways to set up a photo, but as always candid shots can be just as priceless. The important thing I have found is to take many shots as this gives you a better chance of obtaining that perfect photo whether it be something magical or capturing everyone with their eyes open! If you are holidaying or enjoying an outing on the beach, why not write where you are, the date or even your family name in the sand - this is a great way to embellish your scrapbook page to help tell the story.

EXTENDING PHOTOS WITHIN A LAYOUT

Using crayons, watercolour pencils and an aquash water brush you can extend your photos such as you see in this sample. Kaszazz now sell these products which can be viewed via their September new product flier.

VIEWING PAST IDEAS

SPECIAL EFFECTS

Create interest in your photos by highlighting the subject. As you've seen in the photo frame sample posted earlier on this blog, I've made the background black & white by using Adobe Photo Elements software. The potential for this software is huge, however, it's difficult to find the time to discover all that's available. If you've created something special using this software, please email a copy to me via craftymarg@optusnet.com.au and I'd be happy to post it for all to see.

THANK YOU COACH CARD IDEAS

BEYOND THE PAGE - Watersports by Nick

CRAFT DAY - THIS FRIDAY 1 AUG 2008

Hi All - just a friendly reminder that my next craft marathon day is this Friday at Berowra Old District Hall (corner of Crowley and Berowra Waters Roads). Cost is $15/person and it runs from 9am until whenever (wee hours of Saturday). It's not too late to book in, so send me an email today c/- craftymarg@optusnet.com.au to secure a large table.

You will need:
TABLECLOTH or LARGE PAD to work on.
CRAFT SUPPLIES ie. cardstock, stamps, stamp pads, photos, embellishments, etc.
TOOLS ie. paper trimmer, tape. scissors.
COFFEE MUG
SLIPPERS are optional
FOOD SUPPLIES ie. lunch, dinner, nibblies

It's a good idea to try and preplan what you may wish to work on so you can get straight into it when you arrive. Now is a great time to think about making CHRISTMAS CARDS or maybe a gift for FATHERS DAY. I'll be working on two books for my Dad and my father-in-law, similar to the book you see above that Nick made for a school project.

If you've recently purchased some stamps from either KASZAZZ or STAMPIN' UP but haven't used them yet, why not bring them along and make use of them by getting ideas from your fellow crafters. You may have some ideas that we may share.

Please don't hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.
I love making greeting cards using my photographs as it's so quick, effective and personal. Use either portraits, action and/or landscrape photos to make a card really stand out. If you are having trouble matching colours to cardstock, why not change the photo to black and white such as this one.

GIFT IDEA FRAMED

My son was recently invited to a friend's 13th birthday and not knowing what to get but still preferring the idea of presenting a gift, I decided to snap some photos of the boy during his soccer match - who thankfully plays in my son's team.

Here are a few tips on how I put it together.
  • I purchased a frame from our local discount shop and went to work at setting up a layout.

  • I used a soccer ball stamp to create the background plus little soccer embellishments which I made to add an extra element to the page.

  • Using my home computer I enhanced the photos by making the background black and white and only keeping the subject in colour. I did this because the opponents were in bright blue and yellow which didn't compliment our team's colour.

  • Using my own printer software I was able to select different sized photos which allowed me to also make them small enough to give the appearance of a negative strip.

  • The result was a very unique gift which was received with delight.

MARATHON CRAFT DAY - MAY 2008

The Marathon Craft Day and Stampin' Up demonstration held at Berowra Old District Hall was enjoyed by all that attended - it's always a pleasure to catch up on some "US" time without our gorgeous kids and naturally it was lovely to see so many of our original ladies attend.

Congratulations to Tara who had a personal best by completing 25 scrapbook pages!

A special mention of Robyn who came for the day, went to a 40th and then returned to scrap into the wee hours of the morning. Another special mention to Stacey, Marcia and Gina who travelled some distance to share the day with us - it was great to have you there.

The last remaining ladies were home and in bed by 5am ... I know what you are thinking and yes we do have a problem but now you know why it's called a MARATHON CRAFT DAY!

STAMPIN' UP DEMONSTRATION
Marelle showed us the wonderful range of Stampin' Up products and everyone enjoyed the make and take table. A sample of the make and take card is seen below in pale blue. The maroon card seen further down this page was created by using a VersaMark stamp pad or as some may know it as Perfect Medium which leaves a watermark slightly darker than the actual card. Lots of goodies were sort and almost all have been collected and/or delivered.

NEXT SCHEDULED CRAFT DAY
I can officially confirm that our next Craft Marathon is booked in for Friday 1 August 2008 - please contact me via craftymarg@optusnet.com.au to book in and confirm your table. Please note that no demonstration will be arranged for the next event. Finally I truly look forward to seeing you there.

CRAFT DEMONSTRATION
I have arranged to have a craft demonstration at 7pm by Stampin' Up - to attend this is free, so if you aren't joining us for craft on the day you are more than welcome to join us just for the demonstration at 7pm where you will learn some great techniques and shown some excellent craft ideas.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE CRAFT MARATHON EVENT
What we do at our Craft Marathon Days is work on our own projects whether it be scrapbooking, cardmaking or whatever craft you are into. Everyone brings their own gear ie. tools and supplies. A more detailed suggested list can be emailed to you upon request.

A great bunch of ladies join us each term as I run this special event once a school term. It is a kid free zone. You may decide to leave when school finishes but return when the babysitter arrives, otherwise, there are always several that stay for the whole duration. It's whatever works for you.

It's BYO food, so you will need to consider lunch, dinner and nibblies. Quite often several of the girls put in to share a Thai takeaway meal and happy hour is also an option.

NOTE
The feedback from attending these craft days is always positive with many friendships formed, a laugh or two shared plus the bonus of sharing ideas from this crazy hobby that we all partake in.
